3. Data in a crosstab

Dot plots, bar and other diagrams show information about one variable.

However, in a dataset with more variables, information is also hidden in the combination of variables.

Variables are roughly distinguished in quantitative variables and qualitative variables.

Quantitative variables have a value such as life span in years or measurements of lengths in centimeters.

Two quantitative variables can be displayed at a time in a scatter plot.

You can display two quantitative variables in a crosstab at the same time.

Qualitative variables have categories, such as male-female. Such variables are therefore also category variables. The categories themselves are labels, which can only be counted.

The data of two category variables can be organized and displayed in a summary of the combined variables, a crosstab.

The crosstab is suitable for analyzing category variables.

You can work with absolute numbers as well as percentages and create charts.

The Titanic dataset is mainly about category (qualitative) variables.

To see how a crosstab works, it's good to make one yourself first.

In the assignments after this one VUStat will do the work.
